AI & Human Creativity

It’s the subject that was on everyone’s mind. AI and human creativity - can we use AI to improve, rather than replace, us?

The last webinar in our AI for Social Good webinar series demonstrated that there are ways that we can learn to use AI to amplify and enrich our efforts. Moderated by PoliSync Tech4Good Strategist Sandra Uwantege Hart, our expert panelists unpacked this complex issue.

“AI allows us to move far, far faster through the innovation process than we ever would have been able to before - creativity is now much closer to many more people and many more teams than it ever was in the past.” Edd Baldry, Director of Design and Development, Make Sense of It

Use AI to reduce bottlenecks in your workflows. Encourage teams to use tools like ChatGPT or Claude to draft funding proposals, generate new ideas, or synthesise reports. Lower the threshold for creative participation across departments - AI can make design thinking a daily practice, not a specialist skill.

“Let’s be clear: AI is not the artist - it’s the brush. It’s not the composer - it’s the instrument. The spark of creativity remains human.” Ashutosh Chadha, Senior Director UN Affairs and International Organisations at Microsoft

Position AI as a creative enabler, not a decision-maker. Clarify roles: let humans bring the context, values and emotional intelligence, while AI handles iteration, formatting and synthesis. This mindset protects your organisation’s authenticity while boosting productivity.

“The most powerful solutions emerge when artificial intelligence enhances - rather than replaces - human creativity, empathy, and insight.” Asheesh Khaneja, Innovation Catalyst, Caux Initiatives of Change Foundation

Design AI use cases that centre on human needs. Whether you're creating dashboards, donor appeals, or community feedback systems, ask: how can AI help people do this more thoughtfully, not just faster? Prioritise co-design and feedback loops to keep solutions grounded in real-world insight.

“When I’m on a low level with a skill, AI is my co-pilot to learn. When I’m at a high level, it’s a partner that sharpens and challenges me - it’s there 24/7.” Tea Mustać, Head of Operations at the Institute for Global Negotiation and AI Governance Expert at Spirit Legal.

Use AI to upskill your workforce. Encourage staff to treat generative tools as tutors and creative collaborators — whether they’re learning coding, improving grant writing, or testing new communications styles. Democratise learning by embedding AI into daily workflows.
